AgaveSPS
Troubleshooting - Printing
Problems
The most common problem you might encounter with Agave is a failure to print. When attempting to print or open the printer setup within the Agave program, the application will hang. An error dialog may appear stating: Unexpected: General Protection Violation. Agave will then fail to close properly and fail to restart without a reboot. Other programs and documents on the computer will still print normally. #1 CAUSE: Printer names that are too long The remedy is
fairly easy:
1. Select Start | Printers & Faxes to open the printer window 2. Locate any printer that has a name longer than 28 characters. 3. Right click on the offending printer, select rename and edit the name to a string that is 28 characters or less in length. 4. Repeat with for printer names longer than 28 characters. It is not necessary to rename the bundled Microsoft items such MS fax. Note: If printing on a network and you are attempting to access a printer connected to another computer this problem is even more likely to occur. From the computer where you are executing the print job from, go to Start | Printers & Faxes to edit the names. You will notice that some of the printer names may be quite long because they contain the name of the host computer in the string. . Say your network printer name appears as: EPSON Stylus NX400 Series on DELL_DESKTOP This example is longer than the 28 character maximum supported by Agave. Simply rename to a shorter string such as (Dell) EPSON Stylus NX400. What you use as the name is not that important as long as you are able to recognize the printer later. The related printer name on the host computer will not be affected. #2 CAUSE: Excessive Font Count The second most common cause of print failure is excessive font count. If AgaveSPS crashes when attempting to print and/or you are not able to re-open Agave after closing, without restarting the computer, and you have ruled out the #1 CAUSE above, an excessive font count is the likely problem. The actual safe operating range for AgaveSPS varies depending on the length of the font names, but is typically 750 fonts or less. To remedy this problem, create a holding folder and drag unneeded fonts from the C:\Windows\Fonts folder to the holding folder. Storing the unused fonts (verses deleting) in a holding folder allows you the option of putting them back if needed. Fonts required by Agave: Wingdings, WebDings, Symbol, all MS fonts, Smallfonts, Times, Impact & all Arial and BC128 Narrow (barcode font) For email support contact: rprenphoto@aol.com For phone support call :520-749-3788 |
